Kazan (5 gallons UPDATE 3 years later)
Переглядів 1023 роки тому
I still get comments on my video presenting my 5 gallons community tank 3 years later ! It was well over time for a update. It's not a community anymore, I have my betta and two snails. I got Kazan in April 2019. In the last year, I got blue algea issue and I'm still struggling a little when the water change is late. My beautiful plants are now... XD My anubias is well and STRONG ! XD But nothi...

Mizu 2016-2019
Переглядів 945 років тому
Mizu was one of a kind. He lived with other fish in a peaceful community almost all his life. He never did any harm to an other fishie. He was lovable and had a great personnality. He was my boy for over 2 years. I took care of him when he was hurt. When people told me he would die, I prove them wrong. I even get an other tank to move my other fish so he would have his own retirement tank. But ...

Betta tank with platies (5 gallons community tank)
How is kazan
😢
Looks nice .. I just get my first betta .. how often u change the water to keep it so clear?
I have a 5.5 gallon tank with 3 platies and 2 orange fire shrimp, a betta might be too much but I'm thinking a couple of endlers will be OK 🤔
Hi, when platy and betta were together, what food did you feed them, flake or pallet? Also, why did not you introduce platy or other fish to your new betta anymore? Thanks!
Hi ! Platy eat faster so they eat all the flakes, then when the betta is up to look for food, I drop his pallets in his face. He was not a big fan of the flakes so I had no real issue with feeding. If he missed some pallet, the platy ate them. It was really fun ! I didn't introduce other fish with my new betta because it is stressful in such a small tank to have that many fish in his territory. I didn't want him to stress and risk to lower his life expentancy. Plus, he was a lil bit more aggressive in his attitude overall. Hope it helps !
i love your platys names!!!!
Can you please confirm this type of betta, I had a similar looking one.. Feather tail. Sorry if I missed it it the video
The called it "dragon tail" at the petshop but I never saw dragon type fin in official tail types chart. The feather tail was the closest one to what Mizu looked like so I think you are right.
Gorgeous fish , looks like mine
ay i just came from the original lol
I have a question can ghost shrimp live with betta fish in a 5 gallon
There are many people with more qualification than me that could answer that question. I have no experience with ghost shrimp. I would say that it could be ok, if you have a very peaceful betta (like Mizu was). My new one, I don't think he would like them haha XD Plus even if he doesn't attack them, the betta will likely ate the babies.
A bit small for a community tank but he seems calm with a little bit of flaring
Your betta is missing chunks of its fin so it is not fine!
His fin grew back slowly after some time. My new betta is alone in this tank now (with 2 snails). Mizu died at nearly 3 yo.
Cool video! Hope your fish are still doing well! I have a ten gallon tank with a betta and three Cory Catfish! Planning to get a few platies too!☺️😁
I hope you didn’t 😬
@@fbi847 I didn’t lol I upgraded too
@@fbi847 this tank is also overstocked btw
@@oliviaphipps865 ok gud
I have a Betta and 3 platies in my 10 gallon. He chased them pretty aggressively for 2 days and now I think he gave up
If 5 gallons is a paradise for him I bet my female wont be over crowded with 4 platies then.. since it's a 20 gallon long I could probably put roughly 5 shrimp, and a pleco also
Why do people waste their energy commenting negative comments to videos people share??? This video was NOT made out of malicious harm to the fish!!! I can tell this person just may not be aware that a betta needs to be the only fish in a 5 gallon and most platys do better in 10 gallon minimum. Get over your rude selves and be more helpful!!!
Thank you. This video is getting old, this tank is now a betta only tank. Mizu rested in peace last year at almost 3 yo and it's my new boy Kazan who live in his old tank with 2 snails. :)
@@alicha1716 I'm glad you've learned more abour fishkeeping over the years. Your new betta will thank you with years of companionship. :)
C'est une combien de CV?
So glad you did a follow-up video!
I am really sorry for your loss... It's too bad you've never been to r/bettafish on Reddit because you could learn so much there about betta fish and how to give them the best possible quality of life... There we recommend no less than 5 gallons for one single betta. Unfortunately, your 5 gallon tank with all the platies and Mizu crammed in it would have been considered overstocked. You said he didn't even make it to 3 years old and bettas are supposed to live 3-5 years on average which is very sad (his life was shortened). I know this is an old video now since months ago, but I hope you will try to learn more about betta fish in case you wish to have another one again. www.reddit.com/r/bettafish/wiki/index here's a lot of the community info if you do wish to learn more.
He was almost 3 and he had à really good behaviour. :) I now have a new bettafish and he is alone with two snails. I am very aware of the cares needed for a bettafish. ;) The new one is a real fighting fish haha not like Mizu who didnt get the information he was a betta ahahah
We Will always remember him
Do you know Mizu in Japanese means water?
Yes of course, that's why I named him Mizu. ;)
How are they doing these days? I've got a southern platy, a yellow and black Molly, 3 Cory catfish, and some snails and ghost shrimp in my ten gallon. My Betta never chases them like this guy seems to, but there's more space and I got smaller younger fish.
My platies died for unknown reasons, probably constipation.. ? My betta never ever did any harm to them. Mizu sadly died last week from old age. He had this tank for himself (and a tiny baby guppy), I switched the filtration system for a smoother flow and the water level what half so it was easier for him to get to his food, he was getting tired more easily with age. He left very quickly. The morning he was acting odd, I tested all the water parameters and everything was fine. I found him dead just before supper time. Couldn't do anything. I'm still sad. :( He was almost 3 yo. Not sure if I'll get an other betta soon, I'll take care of the guppy gang I have in an other tank and see.
@@alicha1716 Bettas can live up to 8 years in proper conditions. 5 gallon tank is fine for a betta and a snail - that's it. If you want tank mates for your betta, please invest in a much larger tank. All your fish will live longer, happier lives. You can boost filtration, do monthly or bi-weekly water changes (messy fish like platies need frequent tank vacs). And please do not cycle a tank using live fish. You take months off their short little lives doing that.
Hi so you live in quebec and speak french ?? Nice parce que moi aussi
Mizu looks like an old man :)
Bleach themes names I love it
oh well nice update it seems like betta is dealing now with new tankmates.... hahahahaha nice tank where are the platies ?
Are you not worried about the platys having frys....otherwise nice tank...
What substrate do you use? I’m planning on getting a 10 or 15 gallon for a Betta and ancistrus... I’ve been doing a lot of research and your plants appear to be very healthy! I want to add live plants in my aquarium for the ancistrus to hide in. Also your Betta and tank are beautiful!
Jordan T No ferts, no special substrat. Just fish poop XD
How long takes a Betta to stop chasing the platies Becuase i have a community tank so I added my Betta Gilbert and he was ok with my danios and corys but He was chasing my platies.... Is that permanent
shelly la tortuga The betta's temperament is important. Mine always chased them a little bit but never enough to hurt them. Close your lights when you add new fish to your tank. I cant tell you for your fish in particular, give them places to hide and good luck !
Alisson well my Betta Gilbert is now calmed down with his tankmates thanks for Your recommendation!
Yay, this is what I'll try to do. One betta and maybe two or three platies in a 5g! I knew it was possible!
Mmmm, no. I dont understand why people think that you must have 5 gallons for every one fish. Bettas are shoved in gallon tanks and do well. Im sure the platies will be fine overtime.
My advice is a sponge filter do weekly water changes to keep nitrates at a safe level.
Go get a 10g atleast
@@jadetheborb9204 Since then I experimented and learned a lot. Right now I'm settled with a 6g with one betta only, and I no longer think that platies would even look good with a betta. It would look too busy.
Yang is gone! :(
where is ur windex hiding........😂😂
Not sure on this video, but most of the time he's behind the heater or the sponge. Or hiding in the plants. XD He's still pretty small, around 2.5 inches.
HI! may I ask will the red lava rock damage betta fins? Since I want to use some as my aquascape!
ngs kenneth I wouldnt recommend it, the original plan was to attach microsorium to it, thats why they are so small. I didnt have any issue myself but I refommend a softer rock for delicate betta fins.
Thanks for advice! I think I may cover the rock with moss since you don't have issue on it ;D
It's a great idea to put some moss ! :)
That's some happy fish. Thank you for sharing :)
Hiya! i loved this video soo much!! i currently have a betta in a 5gal and im looking for some friends for him, Platys are definitely on my list of possibilities.
Gracii Lacii wow that's awesome just keep in mind that if your betta is aggressive than its not best to have it in a community tank as they can get quite territorial, but it all depends on the betta I wish you luck!
Your betta fish is getting its fins nipped By the platties unless he's nipping it himself
He was probably nipping them in the jar he was before I put him in this tank (it was his first days). See my lastest footage from a few weeks ago, his fins are perfectly fine now (1 year later). ua-cam.com/video/FyqUfGCiOrM/v-deo.html
sebssavagery exactly
Your betta fish looks a bit like mine, check my video
Nice tank what plants and filtration are you going with??
Bossray Twotiimes my filtration is a Marina filter. The plants are Anubias sp golden. The one in the back i cant remember but it died after a while. I now have a cryptochorine and a microsorium narrow and they are growing very well!
Alisson how are your fish doing do u still have this setup tank or no and what type of media is good to you and how do u keep your water so clear
This tank is still running ! There's absolutely no algea and the water is 100% clear. Two platies died last summer from a food problem (it took me time to understand what happened to the first one and after the second one, I realised I gave them too much dried bloodworms). As the tank was a little bit crowded, I didn't replace them. The white/black and the orange are still with the betta and the ancistrus. They know their territory. The betta is sometime agressive with the orange one as it's the most colorful but it's bigger than him and it swims faster so the platy doesn't care and just go away and wait for the betta to calm down hahaha ! It's really not a problem, the orange is eating like a pig and 100% healthy. For the media, my filter is working with two cartridges so I change it every month (one every two weeks). Vaccum cleaning at least once a month (sometime twice if the gravel is really dirty) and I make a 30% water change every week with Aqua+, Cycle and Waste control (Nutrafin's products). I never clean the glass, with two snails and an ancistrus there're not algea at all, never haha ;) The betta is doing well, it's actually the one on my profile picture and as you can see, its fins are stunning !
also the bettas fins looked nipped as hell, and he is definitely not a crowntail so dont give me that.
Hi Brianna. This tank is doing really fine, these footages were taken last year just 24h after my betta was added to the community. There's now only 2 platies with Mizu. The fins were nipped by HIMSELF in the little container he was before I put him in the tank. Now they grew back and he looks stunning. ;) I think you should look at my update video. I should make a new one with new footages because a few things changed after my update. 2 platies died by my fault (not Mizu's fault because he was very nice with them) so the tank is less crowded. They have their territory and they are doing fine.
you should go on aqadvisor.com/ and see for yourself. A 5 gallon holding a betta without platies is ideal. and no i havent watched your update. if you've done this or something like this, ignore this comment.
You can follow a book line by line or try something and see if it's working. They have a lot of place to hide and I know my betta would be bored as hell if he was alone. After one whole year without problem, I think it's not likely that something terrible will happen. See my profile picture, it's my betta right now and its fins are a lot better than what you see in this video ;)
and my other comment abt the stocking???
Brianna Underwood I told you there's now only two platies with the betta. I think that if the fishes are peaceful, I dont see the problem here. My water parameters are fine (NO2, NO3, PO4, ammonia).
that tank is WAYY overstocked. you should get a 15 gallon or just stick to a betta and snail in there.
Thats not overcrowded- the 1 inch per gallon rule is bullshit. It depends on how often you clean the tank and how good the filter is
Wow! Such a sweet, happy ending. 😊 Now I have a nice guide when I create my 50 gallon community tank. Thanks!
whoaa did you name an orange one Ichigo because of bleach because I did the same xD
Ashley-Rose Saccamando Nope its just the japanese word for strawberry and I thought she had the color of a strawberry xD
Il faudrait aller aux concerts de Mika avec un dossier dans lequel on a les paroles de toutes les chansons, en fait.
check out my latest 3 video if you like to look :)
I have subscribed to your channel :)
I like your platys and I like your set up :)
Thanks ! I loved them too ! At first I wanted to set up a betta only tank but I couldn't get rid of my platies after the tank was fully cycled. So I kept them and they are so nice :)
alicha1716 your welcome :)
his fin looks a little tore up towards the end, at the beginning he only had a split at the bottom... what happened?
Hi ! I suspect that he was nipping his fins or he got stuck somewhere in the fish jar (without filtration) he was before I put him in the community tank. The footage start to be a little old, I should do a new one. You can see him in this picture from a few days ago : pbs.twimg.com/media/C_QhEstXYAA2n84.jpg:large :D As you can see, his fins are now amazing !
So you are sure it's not fin rot? It looks like his finnage had shrunk or had been rotted off more and more as the video progressed. Maybe due to water quality or stress in his small temporary "tank". If he is healed now then that is good just don't want it to stay around.
Yeah maybe it was fin rot, juste not as bad as I'm used to see (I work in a petshop and I see some horrible case of fin rot). Not sure how but he recently damaged his fins AGAIN but now I'm pretty sure he nipped his own fins, nothing changed in his tank, no new tank mates, same food, same water changes and it's only the longest part of his fins that are damaged... It's slowly growing back :(
What kind of fish was the bottom cleaner?
Its an ancistrus ;)
Lovely!
Are your platies still alive? It looks to me like your betta is mildly aggressive (when he's chasing the fish around). You might want to look into a larger tank since bettas can be very territorial.
Hi ! Thanks for watching :) Yes, they are still alive and doing well. This video was in the first week of introduction. Now, he is a lot more peaceful. The betta has is own *territory* in the lower left part of the tank (under the root) and he's there most of the time but I see him swimming around quite often.
These are all very nice fish but the tank is is far too crowded. Rule of fishkeeping: 1 gallon of water to 1" of adult fish. Bettas grow to at least three inches and the platies to at least two. So not counting the snail, you should have these 5 fish in no less than a 15 gallon tank (or 10 with heavy filtration and weekly tank cleaning. Platies are very poopy fish). A crowded betta will "thin the herd". I hope you upsized the tank before the betta killed everybody...
@@pkendlers that gallon rule is retarded I mean come on now think about it a 30 inch fish in a 30 gallon doesnt make sense do your research but yes that tank is over crowded
@@pkendlers The 1 inch per gallon rule can be inaccurate.
@@pkendlers that rule is a myth …it depends … I mean with that rule you would have a 15incch goldfish in a 15 gallon which is far too small …. For smaller fish like plattys you can definitely have more
XD Il fait trop plaaais !
